The Final Cut

Williams plays him as withdrawn and haunted, carrying a wound from his own childhood. A new job — the implant of a dead corporate lawyer — pulls Alan back toward his past and into the path of people who want that recording erased. James Caviezel plays a former colleague waging war on the whole industry.

Director Omar Naim aims for a somber parable about memory, privacy and the right to edit a human life, not for action set pieces. It's one of Williams' rare serious turns, a long way from his comedies, and genuinely unsettling to watch. The film isn't flawless, but the premise still lingers years later.
