Synopsis
The Final Cut (2004) is a sci-fi thriller with Robin Williams you can watch online on iFILM. In the near future, a chip implanted at birth records a person's entire life, every sight and sound, until the moment they die. When they're gone, that footage goes to an editor who trims it into a flattering highlight reel for the funeral.
Alan Hakman is the best cutter in the business. He sits alone watching strangers' affairs, crimes and cruelties, then releases only what the grieving family wants to remember. Williams plays him as withdrawn and haunted, carrying a wound from his own childhood. A new job — the implant of a dead corporate lawyer — pulls Alan back toward his past and into the path of people who want that recording erased. James Caviezel plays a former colleague waging war on the whole industry.
Director Omar Naim aims for a somber parable about memory, privacy and the right to edit a human life, not for action set pieces. It's one of Williams' rare serious turns, a long way from his comedies, and genuinely unsettling to watch. The film isn't flawless, but the premise still lingers years later.
