Synopsis
For a Lost Soldier (Voor een verloren soldaat, 1992) — watch online on iFILM, a Dutch drama directed by Roeland Kerbosch. Occupied Netherlands, winter 1944. Twelve-year-old Jeroen is sent from a starving Amsterdam to the countryside, placed with a fishing family far from the fighting.
When Canadian forces arrive as liberators, Jeroen forms a close bond with Walt, one of the soldiers billeted in the village. That summer becomes the defining emotional experience of his life. Based on the autobiographical novel by Dutch choreographer Rudi van Dantzig, the film frames the story through adult Rudi's memory — played by Jeroen Krabbé — looking back decades later. Maarten Smit plays the boy. Kerbosch handles the material with restraint throughout. Stream it on iFILM.
