Cooties

Cooties (2014) is a horror-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. A tainted chicken nugget in the cafeteria sets loose a virus that turns elementary-school kids into a snarling, flesh-hungry swarm. The grown-ups are on the menu.

Failed writer Clint (Elijah Wood) crawls back to his hometown and takes a substitute-teaching gig. His first day on the job becomes a siege: a ragtag group of teachers barricades itself inside while the infected children rampage in the halls. Trapped alongside Clint are his old school crush Lucy (Alison Pill), her smug gym-teacher boyfriend (Rainn Wilson), and a weird science teacher played by Leigh Whannell, who also wrote the thing.

Penned by Leigh Whannell of Saw and Ian Brennan of Glee, the script is mean-spirited in the best way and never shy about the gore. It plays everything for absurd laughs, skewering both schoolyard cliches and the zombie playbook. Good fun if you like splatter comedy in the Zombieland vein and aren't looking for anything solemn.
