Child psychologist Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) takes on a new patient after a difficult year. When Cole finally opens up, his secret sounds impossible: dead people appear to him. Shyamalan wrote and directed the film with a final turn that does not feel like a cheap trick — it reframes every scene that came before it. Osment earned an Oscar nomination at age nine.
