Beneath a Raccoon City mansion sits the Hive — Umbrella Corporation's vast underground lab. Someone deliberately releases the T-virus there, and the staff don't last long. Anderson builds the film around tight corridors, dead ends, and a laser security grid that solves the overpopulation problem in one memorable sequence. Rain (Rodriguez) keeps the team moving long past the point she should. The movie launched a six-film franchise and turned Jovovich into the defining face of 2000s action-horror.
