Tom at the Farm

Tom at the Farm (Tom à la ferme, 2014) is Xavier Dolan's psychological thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. A young ad copywriter drives out to a remote Quebec farm for his lover's funeral. The dead man's family has no idea who he really was.

Guillaume's grieving mother believes her son had a girlfriend named Sarah. His older brother Francis knows otherwise, and he corners Tom into keeping up the lie through threats and a strange, suffocating intimacy. The longer Tom stays among the cattle and corn, the deeper he sinks into a game of control he can't seem to walk away from.

Dolan adapted Michel Marc Bouchard's stage play and stars as Tom himself, his fourth feature before turning 26. It's a slow, clammy slice of unease where the farmhouse shifts from shelter to trap and mourning curdles into obsession. Best for viewers who want tension built from dread rather than jump scares.
