Synopsis

Milk (2008) is Gus Van Sant's biographical drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Sean Penn plays Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man voted into public office in the United States.

The story opens in late-1970s San Francisco, in the Castro. A forty-year-old insurance man from New York opens a camera shop and turns into the rallying point of his neighborhood. He loses four campaigns before finally winning a seat on the city's Board of Supervisors. Josh Brolin plays fellow supervisor Dan White, whose path will cross Milk's in tragedy. The cast also brings in James Franco, Emile Hirsch and Diego Luna.

Dustin Lance Black's screenplay took the Academy Award, and Penn won a second Oscar for the lead. Much of the film rests on real speeches, period footage and the memories of activist Cleve Jones, who advised the production and shows up on screen himself. Stream Milk (2008) online on iFILM.
