Poltergeist II: The Other Side

Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986) is the haunted-house sequel you can watch online on iFILM. With their Cuesta Verde home reduced to rubble, the Freelings move in with Diane's mother, hoping the nightmare is over. It isn't — the dead still want their daughter, little Carol Anne.

This time the evil has a face: Reverend Kane, a doomsday preacher who once led his flock to their deaths. He sweet-talks the girl toward the other side, then unleashes hell on the family when charm fails. Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams return as the parents, and Zelda Rubinstein's tiny medium Tangina is back to fight for them.

Kane was the final role for Julian Beck, who died soon after filming — his gaunt, hollow look needs no makeup to terrify. The creature designs came from H.R. Giger of Alien fame, which is exactly why the infamous "tequila worm" scene is so grotesque. It never tops the original, but as an eerie 80s follow-up it holds its own.
