Pather Panchali

His mother Sarbojaya holds the household together alone — a frail elderly aunt, Indir, a willful daughter, Durga, and an endless shortage of money under the eyes of sharp-tongued neighbors. Meanwhile the children chase their own small joys: racing through a field of feathery grass to glimpse a passing train, standing out in the first monsoon rain, sneaking fruit from someone else's orchard. Tiny wonders and quiet grief sit side by side, with no melodrama pushing them.
