Synopsis
Genius (2016) is Michael Grandage's drama about books and the people who shape them, and you can watch it online on iFILM. New York, the late 1920s. A thousand-page manuscript lands on an editor's desk, and he can't put it down.
That editor is Max Perkins of Scribner, the man whose hands shaped the early pages of Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald before either name meant anything. The new manuscript comes from Thomas Wolfe — wild, restless, writing faster than anyone can read. What grows between them is a strange, combustible friendship: Perkins spends months cutting hundreds of pages away while Wolfe alternately worships him and turns on him. Colin Firth plays the buttoned-up editor, Jude Law the feverish Wolfe, with Nicole Kidman, Laura Linney and Guy Pearce as an ailing Fitzgerald rounding out the cast.
This is a quiet film about craft — about who gets the glory and who fixes other men's paragraphs after midnight. Grandage, a theater director by trade, stages it almost like a play: long talky scenes, muted light, very little action. It's for viewers drawn to literature and slow-burning acting duels rather than plot momentum. Stream Genius (2016) online on iFILM.
