Piggy

Piggy (Cerdita, 2022) is Carlota Pereda's Spanish horror-drama, available to watch online on iFILM. A bruising story about bullying, revenge, and the awful choice of whether to save the people who tormented you.

Sara is the seventeen-year-old daughter of a butcher in a sun-baked Andalusian village. Local girls mock her weight without mercy. On a sweltering afternoon she heads to the open-air pool, and her former friends nearly drown her for laughs, steal her clothes, and leave her to walk home in a swimsuit. On that walk, bleeding from a rope around her neck, Sara watches a stranger in a van abduct her abusers. She says nothing. Laura Galán won a Goya Award for the role.

Pereda expanded the film from her own short, and it sits uneasily between coming-of-age drama and a brutal rural slasher.
