When Evil Lurks

When Evil Lurks (2023) is an Argentine horror film directed by Demián Rugna — watch it online on iFILM. Brothers Pedro and Jimi find a mutilated body in the woods: the local "cleaner" who was on his way to kill a possessed man in a nearby farmhouse. The brothers decide to handle it themselves, hauling the infected man out before the cleaner's method can be completed. They don't follow the rules. That decision costs everyone around them.

What sets the film apart from most possession horror is how evil behaves here: it doesn't wait in one place, doesn't announce itself with rattling furniture, and it turns people against whoever they care about most. Ezequiel Rodríguez and Demián Salomón play the brothers with a worn-down rural realism that keeps the supernatural elements grounded.

The film won Best Film at the Sitges Festival in 2023 and picked up a wider release through Shudder. Rugna's previous work showed the same instinct for dread without excess gore, and When Evil Lurks takes that further — the horror comes from consequence, not spectacle.
