Synopsis
Cell 211 (Celda 211, 2009) is Daniel Monzón's Spanish prison thriller, ready to watch online on iFILM. Juan reports a day early to tour his new job as a prison guard. That single day becomes the worst of his life.
As staff walk the rookie through the wings, a full-scale riot erupts. To hide that he's a guard, Juan ditches his uniform and passes himself off as a freshly arrived inmate. His survival now hinges on Malamadre, the ferocious leader of the uprising who controls the entire block and takes the stranger under his wing. One wrong move, one slip of the tongue, and the cover is gone. Outside, negotiators work the standoff with no idea that one of their own is trapped among the hostages.
Luis Tosar is magnetic as Malamadre — a heavy, menacing presence who keeps revealing the man underneath. The film swept eight Goya Awards, including Best Film and Best Actor, and still ranks among the toughest Spanish movies of its decade. The tension here tightens slowly and never lets up.
