The Double

The Double (2014) is Richard Ayoade's bleakly funny psychological thriller, and you can watch online on iFILM. Simon James is a timid clerk in a nameless, humming bureaucracy where nobody registers his existence — not his bosses, not his coworkers, not the woman he quietly loves.

Then a new hire arrives: James Simon, his exact physical twin and his total opposite — brash, charming, untroubled by conscience. Jesse Eisenberg plays both, separating them through posture and gaze rather than makeup. The double starts taking everything — Simon's credit, his apartment, his identity, and the attention of Hannah, played by Mia Wasikowska. Simon watches himself get erased and can't even prove he was ever there.

Adapted from Dostoevsky's novella, Ayoade builds a Kafka-by-way-of-Terry-Gilliam world of dead light, clanking machinery and humor pitched somewhere near despair.
