Synopsis
Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985) is a Brazilian-American drama directed by Héctor Babenco — watch it online on iFILM. Two men share a single cell in a Latin American prison: Molina, a gay window dresser sentenced for "indecency," and Valentin, a journalist being tortured for his politics. William Hurt and Raul Julia play them both with quiet ferocity.
Molina spends his days spinning out elaborate plots from old Hollywood movies — above all, a story about a mysterious spider woman. Valentin has no patience for it at first. But the fantasies start doing something real: they crack open a wall between two people who should have nothing in common. Sonia Braga appears in multiple roles, blurring the line between the cellblock and Molina's cinema dreams.
Based on Manuel Puig's 1976 Argentine novel, the film earned four Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. William Hurt won Best Actor — a rare feat for a performance so interior and strange. Stream Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985) in full on iFILM.
