The Vanishing

The Vanishing (2019) is a slow-burn thriller you can watch online on iFILM, with Gerard Butler and Peter Mullan as lighthouse keepers on a deserted Scottish island who find a chest that was never theirs to keep.

James, Thomas and Donald are hard, quiet men used to long weeks of isolation. Then the sea hands them a crate of gold, and they make the easy choice to split it. From there the dread sets in. The fear that someone will come looking eats at the three of them faster than any gale, and in that cramped tower they start watching one another instead of the horizon.

Director Kristoffer Nyholm takes his cue from a genuine mystery: in the winter of 1900 three keepers walked off the Flannan Isles and were never seen again, the case still unsolved. The film refuses a supernatural answer and instead shows plain greed turning neighbors into threats. A tight, claustrophobic piece for fans of patient tension.
