Synopsis
The Poseidon Adventure (1972) is Ronald Neame's disaster epic, and you can watch it online on iFILM. On New Year's Eve a luxury ocean liner steams from America toward Greece when a massive wave flips the ship completely upside down.
The survivors are trapped in a world turned over, ceilings now under their feet. Preacher Frank Scott, played by Gene Hackman, drives a small band toward the hull, the one spot the rising water hasn't reached yet. A stubborn cop (Ernest Borgnaine), a former swimming champ (Shelley Winters), a shy haberdasher (Red Buttons) and a boy who knows the ship better than the crew climb with him. Every flooded corridor and burst pipe could be the last.
Adapted from Paul Gallico's novel, the film set the template for the entire 1970s disaster wave and won Oscars for its theme song and visual effects.
