Keep an Eye Out

Keep an Eye Out (Au poste!, 2018) is Quentin Dupieux's absurdist comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. One evening, one police station, one interrogation that slowly comes apart at the seams. Louis found a corpse outside his building, and somehow that has turned him into the prime suspect.

Captain Buron grills him deep into the night, then steps out "for a second," leaving the witness alone with a one-eyed trainee officer. A stupid accident follows, and Louis scrambles to cover his tracks before the boss returns. Dupieux shoots almost the whole thing in a single drab room, yet the room runs on dream logic: time loops back on itself, background characters behave like lunatics, and the station bends to the director's whim rather than any law. Benoît Poelvoorde plays Buron with just enough deadpan to make every ridiculous line land. Grégoire Ludig answers with mounting panic as the night gets stranger.

The film runs a lean 73 minutes and never overstays a joke. Dupieux, the man behind Rubber and its murderous tire, sticks to his instincts here: surrealism with no explanations, comedy pitched right at the edge of discomfort.
