Synopsis
Fargo (1996) is the Coen brothers' crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. Snowbound Minnesota, a quiet car dealership. Salesman Jerry Lundegaard is drowning in debt and hatches a fix: hire two men to kidnap his own wife.
The plan sounds clean — his wealthy father-in-law pays the ransom, the cash gets split, nobody gets hurt. Then the silent half of the duo, Gaear Grimsrud (Peter Stormare), pulls a trigger at the first snag, and bodies start piling up in the snow. The case lands on Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand), police chief of a small town, seven months pregnant, fueled by gas-station coffee and a folksy drawl that hides a sharp mind. Jerry (William H. Macy) flails and lies worse by the hour, while Marge calmly walks the trail back to him.
Joel and Ethan Coen opened the film with a "based on a true story" card, even though they invented every bit of it. Fargo won McDormand the Best Actress Oscar and the brothers a screenwriting statuette, and later grew into an anthology TV series of the same name. Stream Fargo (1996) online on iFILM.
