Synopsis
Yannick (2023) is a French tragicomedy from Quentin Dupieux that you can watch online on iFILM. A half-empty Paris theatre, a limp boulevard farce about a cheating husband — and then a man in the audience stands up to announce that his evening is being ruined.
Raphaël Quenard plays Yannick, a parking attendant who spent his money and his free night on this, only to be bored stiff. The actors first try to shoo him out. Then a gun appears in his hand and the show veers off-script entirely, with Yannick now deciding what gets performed. It runs a tight sixty-seven minutes, nearly in real time, on a single stage where the awkwardness curdles into genuine menace.
In his trademark deadpan absurdist mode, Dupieux spins a tiny premise into a sharp argument about who gets to make art and whose voice actually counts. Funny, uneasy and pointed, especially if you click with the surreal logic of his Deerskin or Rubber. A small, odd film that won't land for everyone, but its crowd will adore it.
