Deerskin

Deerskin (Le Daim, 2019) is Quentin Dupieux's pitch-black horror comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. A recently divorced man blows his entire savings on a vintage deerskin jacket and slowly loses his grip on reality.

Georges, played by Jean Dujardin, checks into a near-empty hotel out in the French mountains. The seller throws in a camcorder, so Georges starts filming everything in sight and passes himself off as a director. Then things tip into the absurd: the jacket seems to talk back, insisting it should be the only one of its kind left on Earth. To grant that wish, Georges is willing to go far darker than you'd expect. A trusting bartender named Denise, played by Adèle Haenel, helps him edit, convinced she's working on a genuine movie.

The whole thing runs a lean 77 minutes, and Dupieux wrings every ounce out of one insane premise without letting the pace sag. The humor is dry, awkward and abruptly violent, made for anyone who enjoys strange European oddities like the same director's Rubber. Stream Deerskin (2019) online on iFILM.
