Synopsis

John Dies at the End (2013) is Don Coscarelli's horror-comedy, free to watch online on iFILM. A black street drug called Soy Sauce hits town, and one hit lets you slip across time, read minds, and see the monsters that were always there.

David and John are two slacker exorcists-for-hire who don't believe half of what they fight — until they take the Sauce themselves. Reality starts coming apart: a creature stitched from frozen meat, a doorway to another world, a parasitic intelligence with plans for the whole human race. David recounts the whole mess to a skeptical reporter over diner coffee, and the line between bad trip and actual apocalypse keeps blurring. Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown turn up along the way.

Coscarelli, the cult mind behind Phantasm, adapted David Wong's novel and kept its weird register intact: cosmic dread sitting right next to dick jokes. The film is deliberately incoherent, proudly cheap with its effects, and having a blast about it. It's for viewers who love off-kilter genre trash in the Evil Dead lineage and don't need things to add up. Stream John Dies at the End (2013) online on iFILM.
