Synopsis
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) is Terry Gilliam's psychedelic comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Johnny Depp plays Raoul Duke — a journalist burning across the Mojave in a rented convertible with a suitcase packed with enough substances to flatten a small city. His lawyer Dr. Gonzo, played by Benicio del Toro, occupies the passenger seat.
Their official reason for going to Las Vegas is to cover a desert motorcycle race. By the time they reach the hotel, that assignment is long forgotten. Rooms get destroyed. The city melts into hallucination. Tobey Maguire appears briefly as a hitchhiker who may or may not regret the ride. Gilliam shoots the whole thing as a deranged fever dream — not just a drug chronicle, but a post-mortem on the optimism that evaporated somewhere between Woodstock and Watergate.
The script draws from Hunter S. Thompson's 1971 first-person account of the same trip. The film tanked at release, earning just over $10 million against an $18.5 million budget, but its reputation only grew in the years after. Stream Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) online on iFILM.
