Synopsis
Bubba Ho-tep (2002) is Don Coscarelli's horror-comedy, and you can watch online on iFILM. In a rundown East Texas rest home, a frail old man insists he's the real Elvis Presley — the one who swapped lives with an impersonator decades ago and never got the chance to swap back.
Elvis (Bruce Campbell) is stuck in bed, nursing a sore he'd rather not discuss and furious at his own decay. The man in the next room (Ossie Davis) is convinced he's John F. Kennedy, dyed a different color and hidden away after Dallas. It all sounds like the ramblings of two senile residents — right up until a soul-sucking Egyptian mummy in a cowboy hat starts prowling the halls and picking off the elderly one by one. Two faded legends in slippers decide to fight back.
Coscarelli adapted Joe R. Lansdale's novella, and the goofy premise hides something genuinely melancholy: a film about aging, being forgotten, and what a person is worth once the world has written him off. Campbell plays it dead straight, no winking, and that's what holds it together. A cult favorite for anyone who likes their genre films strange. Stream Bubba Ho-tep (2002) online on iFILM.
