The Canal

The Canal (2014) is an Irish-British horror thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Film archivist David Williams spends his days cataloguing old reels, until one labelled 1902 reveals that his own house was the site of a string of brutal killings.

David is already coming apart, convinced his wife Alice is seeing another man. Then the footage hands him a coincidence too dark to ignore: a century ago, unfaithful wives were murdered here and their children drowned in the canal out back. When Alice vanishes, David's grip on reality starts to slip, and the film keeps you guessing whether an evil presence haunts the place or he is simply losing his mind. Director Ivan Kavanagh runs this 94-minute slow-burn on grainy film stock, damp tunnels and unnerving sound design rather than cheap jumps.
