Synopsis
Burnt Offerings (1976) — watch online on iFILM, Dan Curtis's slow-burn horror film starring Oliver Reed, Karen Black, and Bette Davis. The Rolf family — father Ben, mother Marian, and their twelve-year-old son — rent a sprawling Victorian estate for the summer at a suspiciously low price. The owners have one condition: leave meals outside the locked attic room for elderly Mrs. Allardyce. Who no one ever actually sees.
The longer the family stays, the more Marian retreats upstairs. She grows distant, absorbed in something she can't quite explain. Ben watches his wife change and can't pin down when it started. The house itself seems to look better with each passing week.
Curtis adapted Robert Marasco's novel into a film that works through atmosphere and sustained dread rather than effects. No jump cuts, no gore — just a building that takes things from the people inside it. Bette Davis as Ben's aging Aunt Elizabeth adds a performance worth watching on its own. Stream Burnt Offerings (1976) online on iFILM.
