Synopsis

Ebony Jackson is raising three kids alone while fighting her own drinking and temper. The move into a cheap house on the edge of town was meant to be a reset. Instead something scratches inside the walls at night, the children turn strange and cruel, and the neighbors keep their distance. When a child-welfare worker starts circling the family, Ebony gets caught between losing her kids and whatever has moved in beneath their roof. To save them, she has to face herself first.
The film draws on a notorious possession case that ran in U.S. papers in the early 2010s. Lee Daniels, who made Precious and The Butler, blends scares with a family drama about faith and addiction, while Glenn Close digs into a sharp-tongued grandmother. It runs 111 minutes.
