Synopsis
Fly Away Home (1996) is a family adventure drama you can watch online on iFILM. After her mother dies, thirteen-year-old Amy moves to rural Canada to live with the inventor father she barely knows, and stumbles onto a clutch of abandoned goose eggs.
The eggs hatch, and the goslings decide Amy is their mother. Winter is coming, though, and the birds have no one to teach them the route south. So Amy and her dad (Jeff Daniels) build a tiny aircraft and set out to lead the flock halfway across the continent. Anna Paquin, fresh off her Oscar for The Piano, gives Amy real backbone instead of cuteness.
Director Carroll Ballard, long drawn to stories about people and animals, keeps it grounded. The script borrows from inventor Bill Lishman, who genuinely taught wild geese to follow an ultralight plane. Cinematographer Caleb Deschanel shot the flight sequences, and they still soar. It's a gentle, unhurried movie that earns its feelings without syrup — easy to watch with the whole family. Stream Fly Away Home (1996) online on iFILM.
