Synopsis

Two Brothers (Deux Frères, 2004) is Jean-Jacques Annaud's family adventure drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Born in the jungles of 1920s Indochina, two tiger cubs are torn apart by hunters and circumstance, each carried off into a very different life.

The shy cub, Kumal, ends up the pet of a colonial official's young son, played by Freddie Highmore. The bolder one, Sangha, is sold to a travelling circus and trained to perform and fight. Years earlier, adventurer and big-game hunter Aidan McRory — Guy Pearce — had broken up their family for a temple statue and a profit. Now, by chance, he stages a fight between two grown tigers without realizing they are the same brothers. Annaud shot most of it with real animals and real ruined temples, leaning on practical work instead of digital tricks.

The director of The Bear treats his animal leads as full characters, sentiment kept in check and a clear distrust of the humans circling them. It's a solid pick for a family night with plenty to unpack once the credits roll. Stream Two Brothers (2004) online on iFILM.
