The Medium

The Medium (ร่างทรง, 2021) is a Thai-Korean horror film you can watch online on iFILM. A documentary crew travels to Thailand's rural Isan region to film Nim, a village shaman who says a family goddess has passed from one woman to the next for generations, with herself as the current vessel.

The camera rarely stops rolling, and at first it plays like quiet ethnography — rituals, talk of spirits, ordinary country life. The shift comes at a funeral, where Nim's niece Mink starts behaving in ways no one can explain. The family assumes the goddess has entered the girl. The longer it goes, the clearer it becomes that whatever has taken Mink has nothing to do with their deity, and the old rites do nothing to stop it.

Directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and produced by Na Hong-jin of The Wailing, it carries that same slow dread and an ending that pushes right to the edge of what you can sit through.
