Synopsis

Twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace move with their mother Helen (Mary-Louise Parker) into a crumbling old estate. Jared — played in both roles by Freddie Highmore — finds a handwritten field guide hidden in the attic, detailing every creature in the invisible world around them. Opening that book is a mistake: a shape-shifting ogre named Mulgarath (Nick Nolte) wants it destroyed, and a mischievous house boggart wants revenge. Sarah Bolger plays their sword-training sister Mallory, while David Strathairn appears as the long-absent Arthur Spiderwick. Seth Rogen and Martin Short voice two of the more unpredictable fairy-world inhabitants.
