Captain New Eyes pilots a time-traveling blimp back to the prehistoric past and feeds wild dinosaurs his Brain Grain cereal, which turns them smart, gentle and able to talk. Led by a friendly T. rex named Rex, the quartet agrees to travel forward in time to help fulfill the dreams of city kids. Of course, the plan unravels almost immediately. The dinosaurs end up loose on the streets, befriend two children named Louie and Cecilia, and pose as carnival figures to avoid panicking the crowds — right up until they cross paths with the Captain's sinister brother, Professor Screweyes, and his nightmarish circus.

Produced by Steven Spielberg with John Goodman voicing Rex, the film carries real polish despite its brisk 72-minute runtime, and the cast includes Martin Short and Rhea Perlman. It's aimed squarely at young viewers, though the Screweyes circus turns notably darker than the rest and may unsettle the more sensitive ones. A solid pick for a family movie night.
