Hard Rain

Hard Rain (1998) is Mikael Salomon's waterlogged crime thriller, and you can watch online on iFILM. A small Indiana town is going under. The dam is about to give, residents are fleeing, and right through the drowning streets rolls an armored truck carrying three million dollars.

Young guard Tom, played by Christian Slater, gets ambushed waist-deep in floodwater but stashes the cash before the robbers can grab it. On his tail is a crew led by the cool-headed Jim, and Morgan Freeman makes him oddly likable for a villain. Boats and jet skis tear down flooded avenues, gunfights break out in a church and a school gym, the water keeps rising, and it's never clear who's the bigger danger: the thieves, a crooked sheriff, or the storm itself. Minnie Driver plays a local restorer caught in the middle of it all.

It was shot in enormous tanks flooded with real water by the ton, which is why everything feels genuinely soaked and cold. No pretensions here. It's a sturdy late-'90s genre ride built around brawls and chases fought neck-deep in the flood. Fans of Speed and old-school action will have a fun popcorn night with it.
