Silverado

Silverado (1985) is Lawrence Kasdan's western you can watch online on iFILM. Four strangers fall in together on the dusty road to a run-down town: the unflappable gunman Paden, the easygoing Emmett, his hotheaded kid brother Jake, and Mal, a Black cowboy who keeps getting told he isn't welcome.

Silverado itself is choked by a crooked sheriff and his hired guns, who are squeezing honest settlers off their land. The accidental traveling companions become friends, then become the men who decide to push back. Kasdan loaded the cast with future stars before their breakout fame: Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, and a young Kevin Costner clearly having the time of his life. John Cleese turns up as an oddball sheriff and Jeff Goldblum as a slippery gambler.

The movie arrived when the western was written off as a dead genre, and it leans happily into the classics: shootouts, chases, a jailbreak, a final showdown down the main street.
