Synopsis

High Noon (1952) is Fred Zinnemann's tense western you can watch online on iFILM. Marshal Will Kane has just turned in his badge and married when word arrives: a killer he once jailed is coming back on the noon train to settle the score.

A little over an hour separates Kane from the gunfight, and the film runs almost in real time, with clocks ticking on the walls as the minutes burn down. Kane (Gary Cooper) goes door to door trying to raise a posse, and one neighbor after another looks away. His Quaker bride Amy (Grace Kelly) wants no part of the violence and threatens to leave on the same train. By the end, one man stands alone on an empty street against four guns.

The picture took four Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Cooper, and was widely read as a parable about the Hollywood blacklist of the McCarthy years. Watch for a young Lee Van Cleef in his film debut among the outlaws. Stream High Noon (1952) online on iFILM.
