Synopsis
Open Range (2003) is a Western directed by Kevin Costner that you can watch online on iFILM. Two free-grazing cattlemen drive their herd across open prairie and keep well clear of towns. Both carry pasts they'd rather not look back on.
Boss Spearman (Robert Duvall) and his partner Charley Waite (Costner himself) live by the dying code of open-range herding, running cattle on unfenced land. Trouble starts when they near a settlement gripped tight by land baron Baxter (Michael Gambon), a man with no patience for drifters. After his hired guns murder one of their crew, Charley straps his pistol back on, and finds himself drawn, almost against his will, to the local doctor's sister Sue (Annette Bening).
As a director, Costner takes his time. The first hour is mud, rain, and quiet talk by the fire, and only then does it erupt into one of the most grounded gunfights the genre ever staged, stripped of heroic swagger. Duvall is so good the whole picture rests on him. It's an unhurried, sturdy Western for viewers who prize mood over mayhem. Stream Open Range (2003) online on iFILM.
