Synopsis

Dead Man (1995) is Jim Jarmusch's black-and-white avant-garde western — watch online on iFILM. Johnny Depp plays William Blake, a mild-mannered accountant who travels west after his parents die, chasing a job that no longer exists. He ends the first night with a bullet near his heart, blood on his hands, and a bounty on his head.

A Native American named Nobody — played by Gary Farmer, a man who spent years exhibited across America and England as a curiosity — finds the wounded stranger and decides he is the reincarnation of the English poet William Blake, whose verses he knows by heart. The two move through the dark forests of the Pacific Northwest, Blake growing eerily accurate with a gun, while three bounty hunters close in from behind.

Shot by Robby Müller, the film moves at the pace of a fever dream and features brief appearances by Crispin Glover, John Hurt, Iggy Pop, Gabriel Byrne, Alfred Molina, and Billy Bob Thornton. Neil Young scored it live, improvising on electric guitar while watching a rough cut — the result sounds like no other western soundtrack. Stream Dead Man (1995) in full on iFILM.
