The Son

The Son (2022) is Florian Zeller's family drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Peter (Hugh Jackman), a successful New York lawyer, has just settled into a new life with his wife Beth and their baby when his ex-wife Kate (Laura Dern) shows up at the door.

Their seventeen-year-old son Nicholas has been skipping school for months. He is withdrawn, heavy, and angry, and he cannot say why — he doesn't fully understand it himself. Peter takes the boy in, certain that a father's attention will set things right. But depression doesn't yield to good intentions, and his efforts to save his son slowly strain both his second marriage and his own composure. Vanessa Kirby plays the wife caught between her husband and a grief that isn't hers; Anthony Hopkins turns up in a single sharp scene as Peter's father.

Zeller made this after The Father, his Oscar-winning film with Hopkins, and once again he traces how one person's pain spreads through a whole household.
