Synopsis
The Hours (2002) — watch online Stephen Daldry's drama adapted from Michael Cunningham's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, with Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, and Julianne Moore. The film earned nine Oscar nominations; Kidman took Best Actress for her transformation into Virginia Woolf.
Three women, three decades, one book connecting them all. In the early 1920s, Woolf writes Mrs Dalloway in Richmond while fighting the pull of her own mind. In 1951 Los Angeles, housewife Laura Brown reads that same novel at the kitchen table and quietly unravels inside her picture-perfect life — Julianne Moore plays her with extraordinary restraint. In present-day New York, Clarissa Vaughan (Meryl Streep) organises a party for her dying friend Richard, a poet played by Ed Harris. The three timelines run in parallel and collide in ways the opening hour doesn't hint at.
David Hare wrote the screenplay; Philip Glass composed a score so precise it became its own landmark. The film won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Stream The Hours (2002) in full online on iFILM.
