Synopsis
The Disappearance of Josef Mengele (2025) is a historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Kirill Serebrennikov and starring August Diehl. The film is an international co-production — Germany, France, the United Kingdom and several other countries — and runs 135 minutes.
Mengele was the SS physician who ran prisoner selections at Auschwitz from 1943, choosing who went to the gas chambers and who became a subject of his medical procedures. He never appeared at Nuremberg. He moved through Spain, settled in Buenos Aires under a borrowed identity, then relocated to Paraguay and later Brazil. Serebrennikov builds the film around a visit from Mengele's son — the encounter that fractures the careful self-narrative a fugitive spends decades constructing. Diehl plays him as neither a cartoonish villain nor a sympathetic figure: just a man who kept adapting.
The film's real question is how someone carries that past through ordinary days — and keeps choosing not to stop. Burghart Klaußner and Max Bretschneider appear in key roles. Stream The Disappearance of Josef Mengele (2025) online on iFILM.
