Synopsis
"Savageland" (2015) is an American found-footage horror thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Directors Simon Herbert, David Whelan and Phil Guidry built a mockumentary around a massacre: a small town near the Arizona-Mexico border goes dark overnight, and every resident is dead.
The lone survivor is an undocumented Mexican immigrant. The evidence points at him. An execution date gets scheduled. But he had a film camera on him that night, and the photographs on the roll show something else entirely. The film presents itself as a documentary investigation — expert talking heads, news footage, court filings — and keeps its ambiguity intact until the very end.
Shot on a micro-budget with an unknown cast, "Savageland" earns its scares through structure rather than effects. The horror is slow and cumulative, and underneath it sits a pointed question about whose account a legal system is prepared to take seriously. Stream "Savageland" online on iFILM.
