Kitchenblock (Pishcheblok, 2021) is a Russian horror series you can watch online on iFILM. The summer of 1980, the Moscow Olympics blaring from every radio, a Young Pioneer camp on the Volga — and someone there feeds on blood after lights-out. Svyatoslav Podgaevsky directed it from Alexey Ivanov's bestselling novel.

A boy named Valerka arrives at Camp Burevestnik for three weeks of morning drills, campfire ghost stories and a first crush. Then the truth surfaces: some of the kids and counselors are vampires, and telling the living from the dead is nearly impossible in a place built on slogans and routine. Valerka has to work out who he can trust, who has already turned, and how to stop the spread before it takes him too. The cast includes Sergey Shakurov, Irina Pegova, Nikolay Fomenko and Ravshana Kurkova.

Ivanov's idea is sharp: the vampirism barely differs from Pioneer discipline, where everyone chants the same lines and marches in step. That gives the show a rare double pleasure — Soviet nostalgia and teen-horror dread sitting side by side, neither one swallowing the other.
