Synopsis
Container (2021) is a Russian drama you can watch online on iFILM. Sasha is twenty-nine and eight months pregnant, yet the baby was never meant to be hers. Surrogacy is how she earns a living and tries to wipe the slate clean after years of mistakes.
For the final stretch she moves in with a wealthy couple from Moscow's elite suburbs: official Vadim and his wife Marina. To them she is an object, a "container" carrying their heir. Behind the polished surface of their mansion sit some very ugly secrets, and Sasha is hiding one of her own that could blow the whole arrangement apart. The one person she still loves is her younger sister Anya, whom their mother keeps pushing out of reach. Then the past that once drove the family out of their hometown comes crashing back.
Oksana Akinshina carries the lead, with Filipp Yankovsky and Yuliya Aug beside her. Director Maxim Sveshnikov delivers a cold, sharp story about what happens when a contract treats a living woman as merchandise; the series was picked for the 2021 MIP Drama showcase.
