Synopsis
Gods (Bogowie, 2014) is a Polish biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Łukasz Palkowski's film follows the young years of cardiac surgeon Zbigniew Religa — a man who, in the grey Poland of the 1980s, set out to do what his peers called reckless: put a dead stranger's heart inside a living patient.
Tomasz Kot plays Religa as blunt, stubborn and impossible to manage. He walks out of the capital's hospital, moves to the provincial town of Zabrze and builds a heart-surgery unit almost from scratch, fighting to operate on a stopped heart. The health ministry stalls him, patients die on the table, and the press buries his method along with the bodies. Each failure costs him his standing, yet he scrubs back in. Piotr Głowacki, Magdalena Czerwińska and Jan Englert round out the cast.
The climax — the 1985 operation where a patient finally pulls through — is shot plainly, almost like found footage. Palkowski keeps you tense not with a plot twist but with one honest question: how many deaths can one breakthrough justify. The film took the top Golden Lions prize at Gdynia and earned Kot a best-actor win. For anyone who likes hard medical drama drawn from a real life, this delivers. Stream Gods (2014) online on iFILM.
