Synopsis
Enys Men (2023) is British folk horror from Mark Jenkin, available to watch online on iFILM. It's 1973, on an uninhabited island off the Cornish coast, where a lone wildlife volunteer logs the condition of a rare flower growing at the edge of a cliff beside a disused tin mine.
The routine is simple: walk to the cliff, check the plant, note the date, drop a stone down the old mineshaft. Then the days start repeating with unsettling glitches, the line between observation and hallucination dissolves, and the island seems to stir — with its past, its dead, and the woman's own fears. There's barely a plot in the usual sense, just a mounting sense that reality has come loose.
Jenkin shot it by hand on grainy 16mm with post-synced sound, lending it the texture of 1970s British cinema. Mary Woodvine carries the film almost entirely alone. This is slow, hypnotic work for viewers who'll trade plot for atmosphere; anyone wanting suspense with a tidy resolution should look elsewhere. Stream Enys Men (2023) online on iFILM.
