Synopsis
The Kite Runner (2007) is Marc Forster's drama from Khaled Hosseini's novel, and you can watch it online on iFILM. It opens in a Kabul still at peace, with paper kites cutting across the sky.
Amir is the son of a wealthy Pashtun businessman; Hassan is the son of their Hazara servant. The two boys grow up in the same courtyard, sharing books and one kite between them. Then, on the afternoon Amir wins the local kite tournament, he watches something terrible happen to Hassan and says nothing. That silence becomes the wound he carries for decades. The old Afghanistan falls apart, Soviet tanks roll in, the Taliban take hold, and Amir ends up in California, until a phone call pulls him back toward a debt he has avoided for years.
Adapted from Hosseini's debut bestseller, the film runs much of its dialogue in Dari, with Khalid Abdalla as the grown Amir. Alberto Iglesias scored it and earned an Oscar nomination for the music. Stream The Kite Runner (2007) online on iFILM.
