Synopsis
Little Joe (2019) is a science-fiction drama you can watch online on iFILM. Alice, a single mother and plant breeder, engineers a strange new flower: breathe in its scent and it lifts your mood. She names her first specimen after her son, Joe.
Emily Beecham, who won Best Actress at Cannes for the role, anchors the film. The longer Alice and her colleague Chris (Ben Whishaw) watch the plant, the more unsettling it gets — the people near it seem to shift, the same faces and the same smiles, but something underneath has quietly gone. Across sterile labs, low hums and cold interiors, director Jessica Hausner winds the story like a spring tightening by degrees, until the real question isn't whether the flower is dangerous but whether anyone can still tell a genuine feeling from a chemical one.
This is smart, chilly cinema for people who like ideas over jump scares — closer to Invasion of the Body Snatchers than to gore. The measured pace and creeping unease won't suit everyone, but the angle is rare. Stream Little Joe (2019) online on iFILM.
