About

Synopsis

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) is a sci-fi drama by Steven Spielberg you can watch online on iFILM. The project began as a Stanley Kubrick passion project in the 1970s, rooted in Brian Aldiss's short story "Super-Toys Last All Summer Long" — Kubrick developed it for decades before his death; Spielberg carried it across the finish line.

David is eleven years old, four and a half feet tall, sixty pounds. He is the first robot child built to love unconditionally. A Cybertronics engineer and his wife Monica (Frances O'Connor) take him in as a test case — and Monica slowly bonds with him until circumstances make keeping him impossible. Haley Joel Osment plays David with an unsettling stillness. Jude Law is Gigolo Joe, a robot built for a very different purpose who becomes David's unlikely companion through a world humans no longer fully control. William Hurt plays Professor Hobby, the man who built David. Robin Williams, Meryl Streep and Ben Kingsley contribute voices.

At 146 minutes, the film is patient and strange. It asks what love means when the one doing the loving was assembled in a factory — and refuses to answer cleanly. Stream A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) online on iFILM.
