Will Rodman (James Franco) tests a drug that rebuilds damaged brains. A lab chimp gives birth to an infant with near-human intelligence, and Will names him Caesar. He raises the ape at home, like a son, alongside his ailing father (John Lithgow) and a vet he loves (Frida Pinto). But Caesar grows up, starts to grasp what he is, and one day lands in a grim primate shelter where he is treated as a beast. That is where the revolt begins to form.
