Synopsis
A Touch of Sin (天注定, 2013) is a Chinese crime drama from director Jia Zhangke, available to watch online on iFILM. It took the Best Screenplay prize at Cannes and went on to become one of the decade's sharpest portraits of a society cracking under its own growth.
Four separate stories, four provinces. A coal miner pushed past endurance by village corruption. A migrant worker who picks up a gun and finds it solves things. A sauna attendant cornered by a wealthy client who assumes money buys anything. A young factory hand drifting from one exploitative job to the next until there's nowhere left to drift. The episodes don't share characters — they share a temperature. Each story builds to an act of violence that feels, given what came before, almost inevitable.
